Eastertide is the period of 50 days, spanning from Easter Sunday to Pentecost Sunday. This year from Sunday, April 12th to Sunday, May 31st 2020.
Eastertide is celebrated as a single joyful feast, called the “great Lord’s Day”. Each Sunday of the season is treated as a Sunday of Easter. St. Thomas Aquinas is quoted as saying: “Joy is the noblest human act.” So let us engage in the noblest human act and celebrate these fity days of Easter with great joy, as an act of the will to choose joy.
Aquinas claims that joy is brought about in two ways: (1) by being with someone you love, and (2) by the well-being of someone you love. So, it brings me joy to be with my spouse, my children, or my friends, but it also brings me joy to know that they are doing well, even if I can’t be with them.
May our thoughts, words and actions reflect the joy of loving others during this Eastertide so that we may continue that love and overflow with love of God and love of neighbor.
Peace and Eastertide blessings upon you and all your concerns!
