On the evening of August 21, 1879, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared with St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist on the gable wall of the parish church in Knock.  Alongside the three saints, the paschal lamb stood on an altar surrounded by choirs of angels.  The people of the village knelt in awe for two hours in the pouring rain praying their rosaries.  Devotion to Our Lady of Knock has grown since the approval of this apparition and is celebrated each year with a novena from August 14th-August 22nd, beginning on the Vigil of the Assumption and concluding on the Feast of the Queenship of Mary.  The faithful are encouraged to attend Mass and pray the Rosary during the days of the Novena.
